The majestic Itaipú Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. It is the third largest hydroelectric dam in the world and holds the 45th largest reservoir in the world. (Wikipedia)
To get to Itaipú and afterwards to Brazilian Iguazú, we ordered a taxi at the reception of the hotel where we were staying in Puerto Iguazú. The cost was around 70 USD, and the driver was with us all day, taking us to both destinations. The border control to pass from Argentina to Brazil was very quick, we didn´t have to get off the car or wait in line, the officer just checked our passports communicating with our driver only.
The tour of the Itaipú dam can be booked here:
We did the panoramic tour (we wanted the Special tour but unfortunately it was in Portuguese only). The panoramic tour takes 1hour 10 minutes, costs 12 USD and consists of a bus tour around the Itaipú area with stops at several viewpoints. On the bus you can listen to audio guide in English and Portuguese.
Except from the dam, for me it was lovely to observe the flora and fauna in the area where the dam is located. For instance, we have seen many capybaras.
